winterizing the car

  1. ck battery water level or indicator on the top of the battery (if applicable).
  2. ck battery wire/post/terminal, make sure it is tight and clean.
  3. tune up ( if needed ).
  4. belt ( make sure it is not loose ).
  5. oil ( engine oil, transmission oil ).
  6. radiator/hose/fluid ( ck when the engine is cool, make sure to use the correct type of coolant ... they come in different colors ... if needed ).
  7. test heater/defroster.
  8. ck all the lights ( including high/low beam )
  9. ck brake, brake fluid.
  10. ck windshield wiper blades, washer fluid.
  11. ck tire pressure ( higher than in the summer ).
  12. use gas treatment to take out moisture in the tank.  use 1 bottle for each full tank of gas.  put the treatment in the tank first before filling the gas ( so they mix better ).   use 2 times in a row ( make sure it is the correct gas treatment )
  13. leave the jumper cable in the trunk. 
  14. ck power steering fluid. 
Note: actually this list can be used as the basis for regular car maintenance check too.
